The 5th annual €200,000-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Futurity & NRHA Show is not only the biggest NRHA show outside the U.S.A., it also offers the biggest purse. The prestigious event will be held in Kreuth, Germany, in the beautiful Ostbayernhalle and visitors (admission is free during the whole show) will have the chance of seeing more than just great reining.
Only the Best
The NRHA European Futurity will not only showcase the best 4-year-old reining horses in Europe. In their pedigrees you will find the bloodlines of sires and dams that have made history. These will be mounted by the best riders, those who have written the history book of the sport. Competitors include NRHA Milion Dollar Riders and past NRHA Open World Champions Bernard Fonck (BEL) and Rudi Kronsteiner (AUT); past NRHA Open World Champion, Ann Poels-Fonck (BEL); past Open Reserve World Champion Gennaro Lendi (ITA); past Intermediate Open World Champion Doug Allen (GB); past NRHA Non Pro World Champions Cira Baeck (BEL), Manuel Bonzano (ITA) and Claudio Risso (ITA); past Non Pro Reserve World Champions, Andrea Castrucci (ITA) and Tina Kuenstner-Mantl (AUT). Along with these, past Champions of major events held worldwide.
But the European Futurity is not only about those ‘elite’ riders – it’s also about the grassroots and about those who are making their way up. In Kreuth, you will have the chance of seeing past NRHA European Affiliate Youth, Rookie, Intermediate Open and Intermediate Non Pro Champions – the future of our sport! In addition, the NRHA Show offers a full-slate of approved classes which also include the €10.000-added NRHA Roleski Open Trophy.

The Numbers
Initially the purse offered was €138,000 added in the Open Futurity and €50,000 added in the KL Performance Horses Non Pro Futurity, but thanks to the NRHA European Foal Nomination Program these numbers have gone up. Horses foaled in 2009 or later, in order to enter the European Futurity when they are 4-year-olds, they must be nominated into the NRHA Program and, thanks to the success of the program itself, the added in these divisions has gone up. In the Level 2 Open, from €7,500 added it is now €10.500 or more, in the Level 1 Open, from €3,500 it is now €5,300 or more. In the Level 2 and Level 1 Non Pro divisions, the added money has increased slightly, and until the amount is finally determined, riders will find that the added is now €4,500 (or more) in the Level 2 division and €2,200 (or more) in the Level 1. The reason for this increase is that foals may be nominated from their weanling year until they are four-year-olds. “The intention of the European Nomination program was to create a solid base of added money for all levels of the European Futurity and Derby,” says Nick Cornelissens, NRHA European Programs Advisor. “It is wonderful to see that with the support of both the smaller and larger European and American breeders, this goal is being accomplished. Thanks to the increase of the added money for the levels 1 and 2, and the European eligibility system, the years’ edition of the European Futurity is not only a great event for top Reiners, it has also become very attractive for riders competing in every level. They too will have a chance to ride for the prize money.”
